Want to get the most out of cannabis? 9 reasons why it’s time to grow your own
Good cannabis is not cheap. Just ask the millions of people who can barely afford it – that’s if they even have safe access.
Growing cannabis for yourself is about having an abundant supply of clean medicine for you or the people in your life.
As Ben Harper sings: herb is the gift from the earth / and what’s from the earth / is of the greatest worth.
Here are 9 reasons why it’s worth it to grow your own.
#1) You Will Save Money
If you’re lucky enough to live in an area where cannabis is legal, you know that it can be quite pricey. Anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars for a single gram of pot.
Depending on how much cannabis you consume, growing your own could make a lot of sense.
And even if you don’t consume that much, you might want to experiment with other methods of delivery that do require a substantial amount of bud…
#2) You’ll be able to experiment with cannabis cooking, juicing, oil and tinctures
These other delivery methods have a lot of benefits. And they also require a lot of plant material.
If you live in the right state, you could buy your own tinctures and edibles – but quality and assurance will likely be a concern.
And juicing? Although the health benefits are reportedly fantastic, you need a lot of raw cannabis leaves if you want to give it a try.
#3) You’ll know where your cannabis came from
When you buy cannabis from somebody else, chances are you have no idea what kind of process it’s been through.
You most likely don’t know how it was handled, where it’s been, or if any harmful shortcuts were taken during the grow.
The last thing a sick patient needs is pesticides or harmful bacteria in their medicine.
If you grow your own, you don’t have to worry about any of that.
#4) You will have a lot of medicine
Could you imagine having a pound or two of your own cannabis?
Whether you teach yourself or take an online course, if you learn how to nurture this plant properly, you can produce some decent yields for yourself with just a few plants.
You could even learn how to set up an indoor grow in a spare bedroom or closet.
#5) Grow your favorite strain
If you know what strains you like, why not grow a large supply?
Why be at the mercy of others for that #1 strain that helps you sleep, or manage your pain, or relax at the end of the day?
This could also include growing CBD-rich cannabis, which can still be difficult to find in most areas.
#6) Enhance your experience with cannabis
If you’ve ever been around a cannabis grow, you’ll know that this is a beautiful plant.
One of the most exciting parts of growing is being a part of that process, tending to the plant as it grows.
You watch it bloom like a spring a rose, and instead of just smelling it, you dry it and smoke it – also an exciting part of the process!
Take that first puff of clean medicine and be proud that you grew it yourself.
#7) You could share with friends or family
How many of us have friends or loved ones who could seriously use medicinal cannabis? It’s one thing if you can talk to people and end the stigma.
And it’s a whole other thing if you can actually give them a little something to get started.
Or even just being around the plant, showing it to people at dinner parties – seeing this plant’s beauty up close could also help dismantle the stigma for a lot of people.
#8) You could choose the music for your plants
Whether or not music actually stimulates plant growth has been up for debate since the mid-1800s.
But as our friends over at The Weed Blog point out, there was an episode of MythBusters proving that plants indeed respond to musical stimulation.
So would Beethoven pot taste different than Miles Davis pot? Only one way to find out!
Some people suggest plants also respond to verbal stimulation, so just think about all the conversations you’ll have with your cannabis before you smoke it!
#9) You have a right to this plant
The right to grow our own plants and herbs is a right that we should never give up. It is a right that we should celebrate and explore.
Whether or not you decide to grow your own, it’s there for you.
Let’s take advantage of the grow laws that people have fought so hard for us to acquire.
And if you live in a state where it’s illegal to grow your own, don’t stop working to change the laws around prohibition.
